Things to Blog About

Think! Come on. You can do it. Search for it somewhere inside that mind of yours. There must be something that can be blogged about today. Favorite board games? Hmm, that could work. However, that just isn't good enough. Favorite movies? No, I've already done that. Twice. Typically, I discuss the events of my day, current issues, opinions, politics, food, etc... Throughout each day, I come across interesting pieces of news or witness things that are kept stored in the back of my mind for future use. So what should I blog about today?

I know! This is my post on what to blog about when you don't know what to blog about. So, here are some things to blog about.

1. Review or critique something
It can be a movie, book, song, restaurant, style of clothing, political decision... anything! Your opinion does matter -- even if only 20 or so people are reading it regularly.

2. Respond to a comment on one your blog posts
Many times, people just don't take the time to follow up on the comments to your posts. Sometimes there are controversial or intriguing comments that just need to be discussed publicly. Do it!

3. Discuss current events!
This is always relevant. How can you go wrong? Well, I suppose a controversial stance could turn off some people. That doesn't matter though. Speak your mind.

4. Make a list.
Lists are essential. Lists are useful. Lists let you put things into perspective. Make a list detailing your favorites (movies, music, books) or goals. I suppose this list qualifies.

5. Discuss useful resources, hints, & tips.
Maybe, just maybe, someone will actually stumble across your blog and find a useful piece of information. Imagine how great it would be to help someone in their time of need.

6. Ask readers a question.
Need advice? Need to know the answer to that nagging question? Ask away. It is your blog. Therefore, it is your open forum.

7. Refer back to an older post.
Remember that ingenious blog post that nobody seemed to read? Yeah, that one. Post it again. Chances are that someone will read it this time around.

8. Share some pictures.
Sometimes a picture really is worth a thousand words. Just remember to discuss the importance of the pictures.

9. Share a (YouTube) video.
Short, simple, and sweet. Just push play! No, I don't mean video blogging (vlogging).

10. Don't post.
Blasphemy! Skip a day? Gasp! Yes, it is alright to skip a day from time to time. Most bloggers establish their blogging schedule early on: daily, weekly, monthly. It is almost like a contractual obligation. If you're going to be a blogger, then blog!! However, don't stress if you miss a day. Sometimes having nothing to blog about is better than blogging about nothing.

Don't be afraid to utilize your blog in your own way. Own it.
